Super Sunday

People in this country love sport for sure. Basketball, Hockey and Baseball all have multiple games in the championship series, but even the final and deciding game never carries the same media and cultural falderal as the Super Bowl?

You need not be a football fan to know, and even feel, the impact of the final game of the NFL season. Aside from the single championship game, in your opinion, what sets the Super Bowl apart from other sport finals in terms of popularity, marketing, gatherings, and so forth?

In my opinion, it is the commercials! :) There is no other sporting event that I am aware of that people pay an insane amount of money for a 30 second commercial.
For me, the best part of the Super Bowl is the commercials. Although I think as a whole the 90's commercials were much better, this year has a few good ones - the Naked M&M's, the BMW talking text/e-mail when the mother in law shows up & the Doritos with the little boy in the treehouse teasing his baby brother & Grandma who gegt the last laugh.

I am not fan of football but I believe super ball is all about businesses and commercial; since over 100 millions of people watching this game.
I personally only like some of those funny commercial and shows.
Companies pay big box for few second of commercial during super ball to get attention. Therefore super ball is all about a business.

Our nation has seemed to have gravitated towards football as our nation's pastime, and businesses are quite aware of this. This is the perfect timing for them to gear in there ads, in the hopes that they can gain profit. There is a difference between regular football games and the super bowl. The difference is that there are more people watching, so commercials can reach more demographics. The media and businesses hype up the superbowl, so that they can advertise their products. Ads that were seldom seen were the ones that focused on sending out peaceful messages that were non-profit (Red-Cross, March of Dimes). All the ads were that of companies trying to seek profit. The superbowl is a wonderful event, but it is clear that businesses turn it into a holiday, so that they can maximize their profits.

I agree with your opinions. The commercials were very funny. There were many commercials that had different methods of attaining viewers attentions. However, these commercials cost millions for air-time. Companies would only spend this much on an ad if they felt that they were going to achieve a better outcome. I feel like all the commercial were for profit. Businesses view the superbowl as a holiday. It's when most people are watching tv; as a result, they can reach all demographics.

I definitley agree with you that the companies that have ads see it from a profit perspective. To them it is their best chance at reaching a "universal" audience so the cost is well worth it. Personally I think the ad spots are way too overpriced, but I guess when the corporate powers-that-be run their bottom line numbers there ridiculously expenseive Super Bowl ads must ring in enough additional business to make it worth it. To each their own I guess. (This why I'd make a horrible CEO!! I would never agree to it! LOL)

No matter where you are, mostly everyone knows about the Super Bowl, and most American's watch it, even if their favorite team isn't playing in it. The Super Bowl is about a time of gathering with friends and family and enjoying some good ol' competition. That's why marketing plays a huge role during the Super Bowl. Many companies invest a great amount of money into their advertisements just because they know so many people from all over are watching, and let's be honest, you know everyone watches the game for the commercials. I personally did not care about any of the teams that were playing this year, and I even put off school work to make sure I didn't miss the commercials or the half time. That's another good popularity and marketing feature that many do not think about, is who is performing for the half time show of the Super Bowl, and that singer/performer gets a lot of hype as well. All in all, the Super Bowl, is more than a football game, it is a reason to advertise food, cars, music, and many other materialistic items that we Americans love.

  7. Jamie M. 96 I have never seen the super bowl! Over the past 57 years I am either at work or outdoors playing. This past Sunday, my husband and I enjoyed a visit with family. Our grand-daughter (2yrs,) enjoys the outdoors also. It was a beautiful day enjoyed by all finishing up with a trip to the yogart shop. The T.V. never went on. I have always been amazed at people getting so excited over it. I believe many women who watch enjoy the commericals and enjoy being with family and friends. As a kid my Mom and Aunts would sit at the table exchanging recipies and my Dad and Uncles and cousins watched and cheered (hollared directions)at the team players and I was sent outside for talking. This was just fine by me as my favorite cousin would come out the door after me and we would go tobaggining. : )

Football is one of the "great American sports." It's the sport where big, burly men can be big, burly and manly. They take a lot of pain, a a lot of dirt and apply strategies. What's not to love?

Personally, I'm not much of a sports person and football bores me half to death. I think that everyone gets the most hype from the commercials and half-time shows. Are there really many other sports where so much money is poured into two hours worth of ADS...and people EAT IT UP?

    *shrug* That's my guess.

Football has always seem to be America's favorite sport. Im not exactly sure why. You would have to basically live under a rock to not know what the superbowl is or when it takes place. It is very know that American's love an excuse to party or to have a big sale. This is just an excuse to have a party with finger foods and for some, drink a lot of beer. Knowing this corporations KNOW millions of people will be watching this game and it would be extremely benefical to post a commercial during the game because a mass amount of people will be watching. The superbowl is known for its commercials and for people like me, it is the soul reason on why I even watch the game.

The Super Bowl is a holiday at my house. Thanksgiving we eat turkey, Super Bowl day we eat hot wings and pizza. Basketball and baseball championship games can take up to seven days to watch. Not football, one game, do or die!!! The other championship games don't offer halftime shows that sometimes have contraversy or cool commercials that we love to watch.

The Super Bowl has become almost an American holiday since our sport of football is completely different from the numerous countries that refer to soccer as football. This sport has a culture all of it's own for our country. This is why we celebrate the big game so elaborately. The half time shows and the famed special commercials is what sets the hype for this particular sport.

I think that even if you dont want to get into the super bowl like everyone else its kinda hard cause everyone else around you will probably be watching it, and even if you do sit down to just watch the halftime show or the funny commercials then you will find yourself getting into the game like myself did this year. My boyfriend is a bit Patriots team so i was kinda in a biast (spelling) household even tho im wayyy more of a college football fan than pro. But as always, aside of the yelling of the tv and the potty breaks during the horrible halftime they chose, you find yourself coming one as a country and enjoying the super bowl and going absolutely nuts for one night over football its all in good fun. Haha, as my dad says it; "If you dont like football for the game then your not an American!"

  16. Deidre W. 97. The Superbowl is one game. Unlike basketball, hockey, and baseball is the best out of 7. With it only being on finally, the time span is shorter. So that allows for companies to use their best marketing ideas fold out into commercials and advertising. Because it is only one game people will come together on the Sunday night to watch, even though their team may not be playing. The best commercials are introduced and the best performances are done because that is part of what people, for years, have watched the Superbowl for. It's also the best two teams playing for 60 minutes to see who gets the ultimate title of champions. There are no do overs or 2nd chances.

The Super Bowl differs from other sport finals because of the commercials and halftime shows. There once was a time when individuals would tune in to watch the Super Bowl for the sole purpose of the football game. Now that the Super Bowl has gained popularity, marketers have made it a priority to get their commercials aired during that time. Many people have Super Bowl parties, but a new trend is on the rise called halftime parties. People gather and celebrate in the name of a great halftime show. The Super Bowl has become a show of advertisement. Although, true football fans will always view the Super Bowl as the best football game of the year.

This was my first time being in the States and watching the super bowl. Of course I had heard all the hype before from my American friends or through entertainment news, like when Janet Jackson “accidentally” showed her nipple. I don’t follow American football at all nor does my family but we all sat around eating pizza and wings watching the Super bowl on Sunday. It’s always fascinated me how much companies will spend on their ‘super bowl’ commercials and how much they pay for the advertising time between the games.

However the women and children usually enjoy the halftime show and not to mention all of the yummy food that goes along with this all day event.

The Super Bowl is a pretty amazing game, for a lot of different reasons. I've recently started getting into football (after years of hating it on principal) and it's a pretty exciting game. The complicated rules make the game surprisingly fair and interesting. The Super Bowl, of course, represent the climax of a football season, and it's only natural that everyone that enjoys the sport would be enthusiastic. Aside from the fact that it's pitting the winners against each other, which makes it the strongest and most high-stakes game of the year, the marketing is incredible. Is there any other time of the year where the commercials are as popular as the show? People actually go out of their way to watch Super Bowl commercials, and many find them online if they missed them. I think that perfect marriage of high-stakes sports and deft commercialism really sums of the theme of the Super Bowl.

I think the Super Bowl gets so much attention is due to the fact that football help defines America. Many countries play soccer, baseball, and basketball but, the United States is the only county that plays football in college and professionally; American takes football more serious than a fun game kids play. The Super Bowl getting so much attention has to do with pride to be an American. People who don’t even care for football take the time to watch it on Super Bowl Sunday because it will something talked about around the country for a while. Even today, on Good Morning American people are now “Bradying”, sitting like Brady did after they Patriots lost the Super Bowl, just like people around the country were “planking” a couple of weeks ago. Knowing and watching the Super Bowl is something that brings America together and every American wants to be a part of that.

I think Americans love the game so much is because it helps define us. When a non-American is asked to name things they think of when hearing the word "American" football, or the silly games Americans play, pops into their head. The Super Bowl and football as a whole is a part of American culture. Just like in other culters watching the World Cup is something everyone does and brings the country together over a common sport.

Everyone knows that the Super Bowl is the most watched event of the year. For this reason, the best and funniest commercials are aired and the big names in music are hired to perform the Star Spangled Banner and the halftime show. It does not matter if "your" team is playing, everyone watches and picks their favorite of the two teams competing. I think that it is a feeling of unity for our nation knowing that this one Sunday of the year, virtually everyone is doing the exact same thing, whether it be at a party, in their own living room, or (for a pretty price) actually in person at the stadium. It is fun to have that feeling of togetherness. Even if you're alone watching the game, you can still feel like you're a part of something that will become history.

First and foremost football itself is one of the most popular sports in the United States. Some still say baseball might be more popular but football is still rising fast. Another reason is the playoffs. In football there is no series or game 4. Regardless of your record if you make it to the playoffs it's win or go home. I think that gives it a little more excitement and of course the commercials as well as the halftime show are good to look forward to.

So, in my opinion, the Super Bowl has gained popularity other than the game itself because of the half time show and the commercials. The commercials are specifically made for the televised Super Bowl and of course the half time show isn't a marching band on the field. It is popular singers that perform, so everyone is anxious to see what show is going to be performed.

I normally watch with family and friends but I am not a big football fan to begin with and I really don't understand how the game works so unless the Falcons, my home team, are playing I don't watch anything but the half-time show and the commercials.

The Superbowl brings a lot of hype. Companies love all of this hype because they pay tons of money just to get a slot for their commercial during the Superbowl. Everyone knows that all the new commercials come on during the breaks so everybody wants to watch to make sure they don't miss something their friends are going to talk about later. The commercial are great because most of them are pretty entertaining, more than the game to some. It has become a social event that everyone wants to take part in. Most have parties and make sure they have plenty snacks and food for their guests. I don't get the hype and I probably never will but for all the companies, this is the best time of the year for them.

I think what sets the super bowl apart from other sports championship games is all the hype around the commercials and the fact that football is a real "American" sport and is associated with drinking beer and eating wings and that just creates an atmosphere that a lot of people enjoy.

Am not a football fan but the commercials and the half time show in this game keep me clinged to the television. This game creates a good opportunity for companies to advertise their products and services as most Americans whether fans of football or not like me watch the game hence reaching out a greater population at this particular time.It also creates a good opportunity for family and friends to meet and enjoy time together;a rare opportunity in the busy-scheduled American lifestyle.A moment for moms to be out of the kitchen and have some wings and pizzas. It also a good excuse for kids to stay up late at night without being reminded it is bed time.A moment of interraction too.LOve it when I see people crying and behaving wield when their teams are defeated while others are overwhelmed with joy.

I am a huge football fan. To me the Super Bowl is something that a die hard fans dreams about. Seeing your team make it to the most important game of the season is a feeling that can not easily be described. Not only do the fan wait all season but marketing companies do as well. Having their commercials played during the Super Bowl betters their chances at racking in business because everyone and their mother takes that one day out of their schedule to watch the game $3.5 million, was spent on a 30-second commercial spots. I think that the Super Bowl gives our nation a chance to come together. Sitting down with you love ones to watch the game is a great family activity. During the Super Bowl more currency is put into circulation. Hotel rates go up bringing in bigger profits. Even if your team doesnt come out on top it is a great way to end a season and that puts them ahead of all the other teams in the league for next season.

So also is the Super Bowl and the adverts associated with it, promoters love the game invest a lot of money in it and know that their returns is not far-fetched. Football is more a social event where every game family and friends watch with each other. The advertisments have caught on over the years because now they spend more money to get their commericails on air and they make sure its the newest commercials no one has seen yet to try to bait people in to buying their products or have a good laugh. I will admit that I don’t watch sports on TV because I am not a sports fanatic. I do however enjoy attending a baseball game every now and then. I find Super Bowl Sunday to be a great day for cooking and spending time with my friends and family. I will say that the guys thoroughly enjoy themselves as they are usually oblivious to anything other than the football game, food and drinks. I prefer to watch the commercials rather than the actual game, I am eager to see what could top the previous year.

I feel that Super Bowl Sunday has and always will be an important day of the year for friends and family to gather and spend time together. I think that the reason there is more publicity is because of the advertising opportunities that are available for a variety of companies during the commercials. This particular day provides a larger range of viewers for the advertisement of their product. I thought the M&M commercial this year was particularly funny although I find most of them to be humorous.

I am not a football fan but I do catch myself tuning in for the half time show every year. Businesses spend so much money every year for advertising during the show because the show is so popular. I work at Anheuser Busch and they are a huge participant in the popularity of the show. The month before more beer is shipped out than any other holiday right alongside Independence Day and New Years. I think a lot of the hype of the Super Bowl is the alcohol aspect of the get together. American's celebrate Cinco de Mayo and Saint Patrick's day and have absolutely no clue as to why. Don't get me wrong, there are some hardcore football fans out there that are just interested in the show but many people attend a party to socialize and drink!

Superbowl is almost like it's own holiday because people have parties, sometimes families come together to celebrate. One of the main parts that draws me to watch the Superbowl is the half time show. They usually have a really nice and different performance every year. The commercials are also a huge factor to the super bowl being so popular because then you get to see the best commercials that haven't aired yet. The Super Bowl could possibly be considered a "holiday" if you ask me. There are many reasons why so many people watch the game on this particular day. One of the top reasons would have to be the commercials, it keeps you entertained even if the game is not on; and I believe half of the fun is simply talking and laughing about the commercials for days after, "oh, did you see the one with the naked m&m?". If you did not watch the game you may feel out of the loop not knowing what everyone is talking about. Another thing that I believe makes people more interested in the Super Bowl is the half time show, you never know what extravagant events you will see. Finally of course people watch the game to simply have an excuse to get together with people they love and have a good time. I believe it is different from other sports final games just because football in this country is something that has just become extremely popular, I personally do not usually even watch football during the regular season; but I'm always watching on Super Bowl Sunday.

For me I am not interested in watching the Super Bowl unless my team is in it. Football is a popular sport throughout the US unlike hockey that is more popular in the northern states and Canada. The marketing industry takes advantage of the fact that the Superbowl is watched by millions of people that look forward to the entertainment of the commercials. The advertising (for and during the super bowl) is insane. In January every other commercial you see has something to do with the Super Bowl. The media hypes is up so much, stores and restaurants have Super Bowl specials, and even grocery store commercials seem to cater to the football crowd that month. This is so easy it's called marketing. All these major companies associated with the NFL spend millions and millions of dollars to advirtise their product during the game becuase football gets more attention. And why? Football is talked about more than any other sport in this country (exclude soccer/futbol if your outside the US). Even if you don't like the sport you would still hear about it. Whether it's TV, internet, radio, billboards etc...And also you would see these celibrities be at the game or perform during half-time and yes people will tune in for that. Now I want to get back to the company's products they advirtise, the commercials. People probably talk about these the most because they are: funny, creative, smart, heart-breaking, memorable, or just stupid. And this will continue on if football gets this much attention. Can the other sports compete with it? Well 1st the marketing has to be better and people have to tune in. I love basketball & soccer but when the NBA Finals come on it doesn't get as much as attention as the Super Bowl. Same with the World Cup at least in this country. Go outside in the US during the world cup and see for yourself. I was in Brazil during in the 1998 world cup and it was unbelievable of what the celabrations i saw

Football is about being the best of the best in everyweay possible. So much money is invovled through out the season and especially during the actual super bowl game. The fact that football is played only once a week and there is only one championship game, not a series, makes each game played that much more important and thus draws a greater number of viewers, but aside from this, i really don't know how the Superbowl became so huge. Someone mentioned above that football has become more of a national pasttime, and I think it is a good point. While baseball has always been refered to as America's sport, football in both high schools and colleges draws the crowds. Parents and students alike pack the stadiums, the marching band is there, food and souveniers are sold, cheerleaders do their thing, in short, most of the school is mustered for every game, and this certainly has an effect on the sports popularity, both immediately and in the long run.

Then there is the sport itself; in comparison to baseball, football is more physical, faster-paced and this is commonly associated by most people with a greater degree of pure athleticism. On top of that, the concept and rules of football are more simple than that of baseball, and this lends it greater popular appeal. How many people can accurately explain the workings of the infield fly rule or what constitues a baulk? If baseball is football's main competitor for the spotlight, football has simplicity and hard-hitting action on its side.

Why not basketball then? It also mobilizes a big part of the school in high-school and college, and is certainly action packed and simple in concept. But a gym cannot fit nearly as many people in it as a stadium, and the action in basketball is not as rough as that in football. This, I think, also plays a role in football's popularity; you get to watch people hit each other as hard as they can while they also play a game. Whatever can be taken from it, football is certainly more violent than any of its closer competitors for popularity.

4.I think what makes the super bowl so much more popular than the rest of the sports final series, is that the commercials compounded with the excitement of the sport make it more entertaining to watch. Baseball is very slow with moments of excitement maybe. I enjoy playing it, but hate to watch it. Basketball is exciting to watch but the players seem to be oversensitive to fowls, and trying to get to the free throw line. The amount of money that is spent on the super bowl is off the charts from the halftime show to the money businesses pay to have their commercials watched during the game. Football is a way for people to get together and have fun for the longest part of the year. Kobra,

You hit the nail on the head with the Super Bowl being all about business. I agree that the business aspect is what plays primarily into the huge uproar of excitement and special events that carry out during Super Bowl games. If we were to take a poll, I bet most women would say the watch to see what creative marketing is going to be used in the product commercials.

    ReplyDelete
  101. I believe football has for some reason, settle in and supremed as America's top rated sport. With that being said, companies, product researchers and advertising gurus decided to capitalize off of that aspect. Throughout Football season, you have a large number of families, men, women, co-workers and such, gathering to watch the Sunday/Monday football games. Many people have little interest in the actual game, however, Football becomes an excuse to gather, drink, eat, form fantasy football games and place bets. Football championships built that level of celebration and anticipation. Super Bowl is the moment at which the reasons mentioned earlier come to a peak. Homes, bars and restaraunts gather in the masses for people to view the best of advertising campaigns and commercials. While football is a beloved sport of choice for most, the hoopla surrounding the Super Bowl is more a matter of marketing at it's best. We have seen something similar built over the recent years with the Victoria's Secret Annual Fashion Show. Let's not forget the fact that many of the top football players have female fan bases. Tom Brady was voted with his wife and VS model, Giselle, as one of the top most influential couples. Therefore pop culture and social media have made many of our Football stars the center of product campaigns! This all together creates mass media interest!

  102. Akia G. 97 I agree that superbowl reigns supreme at the end of the season, over other sports. I firm;y believe that the mass media plays a major role. The media focus more on the superbowl because of higher monetary results.most expensive based on the seconds. Football itself is firmly embedded into American culture, which is hugely supported via college allegiances. This evolved and expanded to include the professional teams. The Super Bowl itself is the culmination of this; however, I feel that the level of attention it garners is largely a self-fulfilling prophesy. The huge media hype surrounding it generates a lot of attention and attracts viewers, which in turn generates more hype and commercial interest. Football, I think is set apart in American culture; beyond that, the Super Bowl is only set apart to the degree it is by its commercial ties.

I believe the fact that there is no series in football, including the championship, makes it appealing to a broad audience. The draw for a lot of people is that they don't have to like either team and follow them throughtout a 5 to 7 game series (which would be boring for a non fan) to enjoy the final game. Many people that do not follow football the enitire season sit down to enjoy the Superbowl, mostly for the marketing and the halftime show. I believe that the sport of football suffers from the fact that they don't play series like every other sport. With a 1 game division championship and a 1 game league championship it hard to ever say that the best 2 teams played in the Superbowl. This year was a good example of that. It's hard to argue with the fact that the Patriots were the best team in the AFC, but were the Giants the best team from the NFC? Well with a 9W - 7L record I would argue that the Packers (15W - 1L), Saints (13W - 3L), and the 49ers (13W - 3L) were all better teams. Given the oppertunity to prove it in more than 1 game I believe they would have. Especially, given the fact that all 3 of those teams beat the Giants in the regular season. Any team can beat any other team on any given day / night in any sport. Doing it once proves nothing other than luck. Ultimatley football as a sport suffers from this regularly do to the lack of division and championship series. But they would suffer the same fate as every other sport, with only fans of the 2 opposing teams to market to if they did. I believe football is the posterboard for sports but never will be as true to its fans as the other storts.

i think that the super bowl is a big event for america. its a big party for the big game. people throw big parties and go big for the superbowl. television is into the commercials and many of them are for entertainment and providing companies the chance to advertise their product. the superbowl is a very popular event being that people are going crazy over it, lines in the grocery store are extremely long, driveways are packed, jerseys are hanging, teams are being displayed. its just a big and fun event for all americans that enjoy football and their favorite teams

i totally agree with you Mary,im not really into football. but is exciting to see how people get into it and all the advertising, purchases, parties etc people go through just to enjoy one game at the end of the season. it brings all cultures, races, together.

I love football and watching the pre games all the way to the Super Bowl is the best. I am a die hard fan. I love the Falcons till I die. But majority of sports fans are football fans. I think basketball has gotten very hollywood and overrated. They have a 7 games series and it doesn't need that much. The super bowl commericals play a big part also, a lot of people watch the super bowl for the commercials. I do not know much about Hockey but I do love football!!!!!

Super bowl is a big party. Myself coming from another country it was very interesting everyone get so pomped up for the last game. Now i do the same thing with my friends tailgate, grillout, go to the games. I dont have a team but i love the experience of the super bowl. Funny how everyone likes to watch commercials and the half time show is always something special.

In my opinion the commericals and the performances set the superbowl apart from any other sports finals. People really look forward to seeing the half time performances, especially after the Janet Jackson mistake duringher performance. It's also interesting to see who will sing the Star Spangle Banner. It's a time when familys really get together and enjoy their Sunday. Also the superbowl only has one final game, while basketball you dont really know what day the championship game will be.

I think the super bowl is so popular far beyond the other sports because even people who dont watch the sport know they can still watch the halftime show or the commercials. the big companies spend alot of money into this commercials and their guaranteed to be good and people know that

  112. The super bowl has a lot of other things associated with it besides the game itself. The halftime show and commercials are as talked up before and talked about after than the football by many fans. I can't think of another sport where there is that much hype. The hype is all to get more people exposed to the commercials, because thats where a lot of money comes from. Ticket sales and merchandising i'm sure accounts for a lot of revenue but generating millions of dollars in seconds is pretty fascinating.

The Super Bowl is as American as apple pie, hot dogs, and Chevrolet. In terms of marketing, the Super Bowl is so popular because of the massive viewership that each 30 second ad reaches. Since it is a one game championship, every one tune in to the Super Bowl, while many people will watch highlights or just miss the game altogether in the long championship series that the other major sports play. In the other sports, many people do not watch unless their team is involved, but for the Super Bowl everyone watches regardless of team affiliation. This creates the media frenzy every year over which commercials will make it to the "Big Game".
In terms of marketing, the Super Bowl is the event of the year. No other event can even come close to its influence, and that is why the Super Bowl has such a huge marketing presence.

I agree wwith you, the best part of football/super bowl to me are the funny commercials than come on and some times the half time performances depending on who is performing.

I am not a big fan of football however, I do watch it every now and then mostly because of the commercials and performances during half time. I think it is a little crazy how much people spend on the super bowl event, and the extremes they go through but I can respect that they enjoy it. I think it is also a good way for businesses to make money.

I belive in all honesty, that people need just one more day to have an excuse to b.s, drink and watch television. Its a huge way for businesses to market their products in the most seductive, humorous way they can imagine. I dont find the superbowl to be traditional in any sense. But I do believe that since it is such a world wide event, people will continue to buy in, tune in, and watch all because its what is "tradional" in the eyes of others.

  117. The Super Bowl is a one-of-a-kind event. Its only real purpose is to entertain and to advertise, and yet so many people watch it that don't even care about the supposed "real meaning", that is, the game itself. Marketers have, through some work of genius, made us look forward to their latest ploys for our business. This festival is really a celebration of consumerism.

Football is more closly related to warfare than any other sport. a mix of competitive sport and brutality makes it the most exciting sport to watch and bet on.

  119. I do not like watching any sports on T.V. But i think that what sets football aside from the other sports is that violence can happen and there are just a lot of fans for football. There are more fans for football in USA than there are for any other sport which that explains why they would have the highest amount of hype.
