2012 Presidential Campaign

The Presidential Debates begin Wednesday October 3. Conflicting reports are spinning in the media. Some say this election will be the closet contest since Bush and Gore in 2000. Others suggest this is the least energized election in over thirty years.

What’s your opinion? Do you think it will be close call on election night or do you think it’s been a total bore since the Iowa caucuses?

Feel free to support your candidate, but NO name calling or mean spirited comments toward the other guy.

I think that the election will be VERY close and I am looking forward to the debates. For me, it's much easier to understand what each candidates flaws or inconsistencies are when they are forced to hear the other sides opinion face to face.

I agree, the debates are where EVERYTHING comes out and gets debated. It's how you see how they will react under stress and what their true ideas are all about.

I, too, think it will be a close and interesting ending... I do enjoy the debates although I wouldn't really consider myself very politically active. I suppose I just feel like it's a choice of who will be the least harmful to our country vs. who will be the best? I feel like the President really doesn't have much power anymore and the entire government is so infiltrated with the if you pass this, we'll give this money to..." It seems like it's just a whole lot of bribery and back scratching instead of people really standing up for what's BEST for our country...

  3. I think it will be close because Obama does still have alot of people that follow him simply due to the fact he is already the president. I think he has the right ideas but was brought in to fix Bushes mess of everything. Romney has already contradicted himself in alot of his idea to help the ecomoney I think we should just let Obama continue to be president he does have the right idea people just need to have faith in it.

    1. What about the trillions that keep getting added to our national debt since obamacare? My family worked hard for our money and I dont think the government needs to be garnishing any more than it already has been. I'm watching my grandfather, a retired navy general and also a previous nuclear engineer, get his money siphoned just because Obama thinks thats the way life should be.

I think the election this year will be a close call. This is an intersting campaign, and I can't wait to see you will take over the office. The reason I think it will be a close call is because most people you talk to have a strong opinion about this election. They are either for someone or not, and its easy for them to decide.

I can't wait either, especially for more debates. This last one turned out to be a confusing flop where no one seemed to have any real clue of what was going on. Things are getting tense though, enough so that I'm actually very interested in what's going on, which is not something I've ever cared about before.

  8. As of today if the election was held today it would be a close one. When the debate start on Wednesday and the truth to be told comes out; the numbers will drastically change I feel Obama will win by a larger percentage. I truly think Romney is driving right now by alot of talking loud but sayin nothing. The American people will wake up and really see who is the truth and best candidate for president. Nothing personal against Romney.

I agree with that statement. Up until this debate, Romney has yet to tell Americans exactly how he will fix the economy. He just keeps alluding to how he did things in his homestate, which is something people in Georgia would know nothing of! Obama said from the start it would take 8 years to see vast improvement, I will give him 8 years.

Yes I agree; it will be a close one. I'm glad you do see that it is a mess that was left by Bush and don't understand why the American people don't. They expected it all to be done in 4 years. There is no way that could have happen. Romney campaign reminds me of the saying " talking loud but saying nothing"; again nothing personal towards him. I just don't think he is ready.

I think this Presidential race will be very close, because it seems like Americans are split in the middle from top to bottom. It would not have been this close if Mitt Romney was able to proof to the people how he will fix the prevailing problems. However even though, Obama is portrayed as having done nothing for the last four years, I think there was too much to fix and thus what he has done is insignificant to half the people. Romney on the other hand has a lot of followers regardless of his inability to offer an alternate to the problems. Because of this split, we shall see a very close race come the election.

I believe that this election could go either way. I feel like most people who vote don't really have a say in who our president is anyway. The government will decide who will be the president and they just want our opinions. I think it is important that everyone votes despite this. We, as a nation get the potential opportunity to choose who our president will be and it is very important for everyone who is eligible to participate. I believe the election could go either way. But I think it will be a close call.

After watching the first debate and hearing some feedback from the analysts, I do think that it will be rather close. Not to mention the poles already in place are pretty close. Hearing now that even some people are even undecided now after hearing the debate. At first, I did not think much of this elecetion but after watching the conventions and the first debate, Im getting more of a feeling that it can be a big deal for the american people. After going through job loss and home loss, we want to see what will happen next. I believe in the debate however romney did pivot frequently between his "plans". I wouldn't want a president in office who does this for 4 years. I'll be voting for Obama. I believe in the economic plan that has been set by him and clinton and his passion for the education system is wonderful.

You said it right:" some people are even undecided now after hearing the debate". The debate was actually little bit funny because Romney who was pretending to have the control didn't have evidences to support his plans and Obama did have programs but not the energy to support them.I believe that education is the essence of a nation development and jobs creation . Obama programs towards education is profitable for many Americans who don't have the capacity to afford it.

I find this Presidential election very interesting, mostly because I am now old enough to vote. With that being said I am doing my research on who is the best candidate. The debates last night were not all that great in my opinion. Romney did not go into enough detail about his plans. Instead he was constantly attacking Obama. Obama on the other hand did not do that great either. He seemed to be pretty laid back and reserved. In conclusion, I think both candidates need to step up their game if they want the White House, or this could be an extremely close election. Time will tell.

Every election is full of name calling and finger pointing, it's human nature. Although political debates can be childish at times, it determines the fate of our government for the next four years, so it pays to take notice. I am tired of people saying that they are undecided or that they'd rather not vote because it doesn't make a difference. I hope they realize how much effort it took just to get the right to vote, e.g. numerous wars, millions of lives. So before ruling out our government, remember it works for us. It has the ability to adapt, it just needs the people to remind it every once in a while. For me, I look at a candidate's character. I always think about the Lincoln Memorial when I think about the President's role. Lincoln has one hand closed for strength, and the other is relaxed for compassion, Such is the duality of the President's role.

Mitt Romney is running out of time and his path to victory is growing narrow but Obama need a second chance to work on the economy and move his focus little bit from his healthcare plan. I watched the debate. Romney was impressive with his vigor and energy, but I don't think it will be enough. I think Obama will be re-elected. I don't think Romney has sold the U.S. an economic plan that will suffice enough to make the voters not vote for President Obama. I believe the U.S. will allow President Obama to continue to fix the economy since he said from the beginning it would take 8 years to see what vision he had. I will be voting for who I think is the better candidate, better economist, smarter person, and the better orator. To me, those are the better qualities a President should have.

I wonder if you are middle class too? He is going to raise your taxes. Are you o.k. with that? You are going to be losing money at a substantial rate. This race is very exciting for me. Four years ago, about two months before election I was on the "Obama Bus". I was a young and naive and just as all the rage is with Obama now as it was four years ago, I went along with it without understanding any of it. I became educated about the issues and stopped follow my peers. When you take the time to understand the issues on your own, it is hard to believe you ever just went with what everyone else was doing. I guess a form of peer pressure and how Obama was "celebritized" in the media made it easy to just follow everyone else. The race is close and I am looking forward to November.

  47. First off I believe this will be a close election, but I personally haven't been paying too much attention. Maybe I'm just busier than in years past, I do find that Romney is a bit more interesting and a treat to Preesident Onama than McCain was. I watched most of the debate, I like many were surprised by the energy Mitt brought to the table, must of had a cup of joe with diner. I thought Romney looked the part, I'm sure he would be a fine, more moderate president. The House is republican so he would be pressed to get some legislation done, yet the senate is Dem so a we're back at stagnation, oh well. All that said, I'll be voting for Romney. Romney may represent the rich, and I'm quite poor, a welfare state is not what I want. I personally benefitted form a few of President Obama's polocies, and I fully expect him to be reelected, I'll toss my vote Mitts way.

I feel this election is a big deal just beause president Obama could possibly remain presidnt! Sure the debate may have been a little boring but the election itself is far from that. This election will definitely be a close one, and everyone will be on pins and needles to see whos is president.

First off, I would like to start by predicting that we will easily break last years record for third party votes.
    RON PAUL!
For the longest time, I didn't want to have anything to do with the either of them. Lately, things have been getting more and more interesting.
I don't care for the media, largely because it is nearly completely ran by Clear Channel Communications.
I judge the candidates by watching the debates and analyzing their campaign process.
I haven't liked either of them from the beginning.
I never approved of Obamacare, and after seeing what it has done to my retired grandparents and my hometown's middle class, I want him out of there.
On the other hand, I never liked Romney from the very beginning. I completely believe in a capitalist nation, but I can't see a nation being governed under someone who is the epitome of a capitalist.
Romney is a business man. He is all about his money. I may be the same way, but I'm not running for presidency. The guy scares me, and from the recent video that leaked, he scares me even more.
Business men can be shifty. They can also be deceitful.

So, for this election, I am proudly voting for who I think has the right idea, even if some of the things he says are a little batty. The federal reserve is wrong. Socializing healthcare is wrong. In a nutshell, government intervention is wrong outside of the boundaries of safety and immigration control.

What ever happened to the days in history before large corporations started replacing family businesses? The days when there were shades of gray between breaking laws? The days when the people of this nation had their Constitutional rights without so many guidelines? Maybe I was born in the wrong decade, but I think greed and power is driving the nation crazy.

I would not say I am much of a political person. Though I call myself Republican, there has yet to be a president in my voting years that I completely support. There is always something that I agree and disagree with all parties. To be honest, I think the whole political scheme of things is a bit of a joke. Presidents, whether their fault or not, can never keep all the promises they make. Our nation gets farther and farther into debt while those in power get richer. I think there are a lot of changes that need to be made. As far as the possibility of a close election, I do think that may be present. I have heard many talk of giving up on Obama, as well as Romney being all talk. I suppose only time will tell.

I think that the election will be very close and I am looking forward to the upcoming election President Obama still has a very large following but not what he did in 2008. In 2008, Obama was the cool, young guy who was fresh to America, and it was a simple fact that John McCain had no chance of beating him. Now, we've seen him fail in some areas so that cool, fresh face factor is no longer there. McCain failed when he picked up Palin as his running mate, where as Romney is "winning" with Paul Ryan. Ryan will crush Joe Biden in a debate. No doubt about it. Mitt Romney is a better candidate who has a following, the running mate and THE MONEY to beat Obama. It should be interesting.

I do believe that Biden will be crushed in the next debate, but I also think that the last two will go solidly to Obama if Romney does not start getting more detailed about his plans and less pushing on what Obama hasn't done. The fact checkers jumped all over most of Romney's statements from Wed and I think that may have hurt some of his "win".

I do believe this election will be close because a large amount of Obama's followers from the past election are in denial that he has failed to step up to the plate this last term. There were so many people who embraced Obama and idolized him more like a rock star or movie star than a presidential candidate. He is charismatic, good looking, and good natured and because of that, people didn't care to research his views on issues and fully comprehend the devastation he could bring to this country. Those same people, are now saying "He just hasn't had enough time to make a difference! America is so broken it's going to take TIME to fix it!" If these people would look at the record they would see that Obama has increased our deficit by 6 TRILLION dollars and has spent way more than any other president of the United States. For instance, Obamacare will cripple the businesses of this country! Of course there is a benefit to those without insurance but the problem is those businesses who employ those people are going to suffer greatly and there will be employment cuts which will in turn leave those employees without health insurance once again. I watched the presidential debate the other night and if I had to describe the candidates with one word it would be: Romney: energized, Obama: TIRED. I don't blame the guy for being tired because as the record has proven, not just any guy can run this country. We need a business person, one who knows how to turn this country around.

This election is certainly energized for Mitt Romney supporters because of the hope and faith we have in our country with him as our leader. As for the "other guy" and his supporters, I believe they are tired as all their energy is spent defending his mistakes and pleading for more time.

I completely see where your coming from about this. Obama may be tired but being in the white house tires every man out not just him. It's the same every election not just this one. Each man promises change and they work towards it and if the president doesn't meet what he promised in four years people have something bad to say. IT WILL ALWAYS HAPPEN THIS WAY. Four years not even eight years is enough to change this country from the things we suffered through each and every president. It just wasn't Obama. As soon as Romney gets into office, if he does, and he doesn't do all of what he's saying then everybody is going to say the same thing about him that they're saying about Obama.

I believe that people vote according to race and religion. The main reason people actually voted for Obama because of the fact that he is "African-American" and he was a fresh young face and promised change. Unfortuantly he will most likely win this election again because of the fact that; a) Romney is mormon, b) because the average American beleives that Obama needs more time so he can actually improve our country and c) because of the fact that Obama is indeed African-American. The election will be actually close, however Obama will win against Romney.

This election is going to be close in the fact that we have an incumbent President who basing his agenda on "Forward" slogan and want to finish his agenda in the next term and the we have a right wing conservative who is convincing the electorate that they cant afford 4 more more years of "failed" policies. the decision lies with the voters now.

Romney to me is a complete idiot. He has no clue how to run a country. After all the things i've already heard him say and all the questions he's already asked, i dont see how anybody would actually vote for Romney, especially women. I do believe this will be a very close election. I watched the debate and will watch the other 3 to come thanks to an assignment in my POLS class. 4 years ago during the primaries, I would have chosen Hillary Clinton over Barak Obama. However, I believe that with the mess he inherited and the cliff the economy was falling off of due to the housing and financial crisis, Obama was the right one for the job. He stopped the slide and we are finally seeing job growth again and the unemployment numbers dropped again. I don't believe Romney has a plan that will work, and I truly just do not trust him. I also cannot fathom voting for someone who was heavily involved in a company that sent jobs overseas. It will be close, but I truly hope Obama is able to win another term and that the Republicans in Congress will stop working against him ans start working with him.

I feel that, while it may be close, Obama will win this election. Romney's publicity so far has been rather poor and given him an overall negative image to the public. Some of his stances have alienated himself from certain brackets in the country, particularly many of the women and the 18-26 year-old age group. This is mostly due to his positions on abortion and healthcare, as well as those of his Vice President nominee, Paul Ryan.

Let me start out by saying one of the best things I have heard in awhile. Pres. obama you dont just pick the best and the worst you pick the worst!!! I believe this election will be a close one. I would first like to say I think its really sad and ridiculous that many of the responses for this blog are based on race. Many comments stated the fact that people voted merely on the race of President Obama. Had that been true he would not have won the last 4 years. If it is population based and people voted because he was African American he would have clearly lost. Simple statistics would indicate that African Americans alone could not have made President Obama PRESIDENT. I actually think that it is the reverse. I believe that many people are upset and disappointed about the race of the president. Racism literally showed its evil head in 2008. The hidden feelings of people showed themselves during this time. Its really sad that we're still in that state of mind in 2012. This being the 1st African American president is constantly the talk, however I have never heard of race being an issue all the years before, when they were all white gentlemen. That should speak volumes.
I believe that this will be a very interesting and close race. I think people should study and research for THEMSELVES and make a decision based on their own mind and belief. What benefits you? I look at the factual info regarding tuition and that opens my eyes wide. I also look at personal situations with my family and when things are prospering and when jobs seem to be lost, etc.

I know it is quite sad that many people would base their opinion on race, but that is something we can not avoid in any election. I believe that you may have made a choice on how someone looks. To an extent I do not talk to certain people because they do not look trust worthy. My great grandfather loved to explain this through a amusing story: "If you are walking down the street and a man in a green hat approaches you. You say hello to the man. Soon after he punches you in the face knocking you out. A month later you are walking down that same street and see another man in a green hat. You won't stay on that street you will avoid them." Point being perception is reality. Just some food for thought!

I think the main reason why there is absolutely no interest in this presidential race is because people are despairing over our choices. No one really cares because neither one of the candidates is very promising. When it comes time to vote I'm not going to vote based on all of the words that they have said but on their character. The one that practices what he preaches will be getting my vote.

I think its really sad that the first thing you said is that it will be a close call due to Pres. Obama's race. Also that its appealing for people to have a COLORED president. These statements alone show how small you think. Since you think Romney is more educated I think you should educate yourself on history. Ignorance alone is showing through your terminology.

This is a close race, but you always hear people saying that presidents make false promises, I can't agree with that. Yes I love Obama, and people are always criticizing him stating that he has done what he promised to do during his election. I can truly say that he walked into a mess, and it takes more that four years to clean up the mess that was made before he was even elected. So at the end of the day you never know what the outcome will be, but you can only hope for the best.

I think watching the debates helps me to better understand each candidate's idea on how to help our country grow. It helps to see Obama and Romney discuss and debate eachother face to face rather than the normal back and forth through the media. Still, even after the debates, I think that this is going to be a very close election. From recent polls, about 94% of people know who they are going to vote for, and those 94% are split practically 50/50 between Obama and Romney. The remaining 6% that are undecided are currently the most powerful people in America, and the debates may sway them towards one of the candidates.

I think it's very easy to get too wrapped up in what either of the candidates have to say regarding their stances on whichever of the millions of issues they discuss. I listen to talk radio every morning (right and left wing broadcasts) and not to say what these people say is relevant or correct, but i think they at least have more room to talk freely about their party's opinions. These debates seem to skirt around the actual issues. Both parties have to be focused on "encrypting" their actual views in blanket statements. This year's election seems to be more rigged than in years past, seeing as not many people (at least that i've spoken with) feel strongly about either candidate. Lets face it, America's kind of between a rock and a hard place as it is. It's difficult to see either candidate fixing all of America's issues in 4 or even 8 years. I personally believe this will be a close election because neither party seems to have a reliable plan of action going into next term's presidency. Social media really has the option to pick apart any aspect of both Romney and Obama, and with America being as "addicted" to social media as we've become, it's almost as if we dont have our own opinions anyways.

I don't really understand where you're pulling these ideas from... How can you say people are upset about the race of the president when you also stated that many non-African Americans must have voted for him? Racism seems to be less an issue than everyone wants it to be, and, you're right, we ARE in the 21st century. It's people's (like yourself) inclination to continue bringing it up that keeps the fire lit under the issue... It's almost like reverse psycology. You're also correct; every past president HAS been white, and of course it's going to be a big deal when a black president enters office. Try and keep a positive light about the whole situation: it's inherently a step forward for America's black community, a step forward for America's white community, a huge step forward towards a generally unified America, and a big political ?? for America as a whole. Right? To each their own though, and may the best candidate win.
