Prince Envy

Regardless of your own opinion, why do you think Americans are so fascinated with the Royal Wedding of William and Kate?

The reason Americans are so worried about it is because our government sucks. Plus I am tired of hearing about it. I don't care that they are getting married.

  3. I think it is the whole idea of a fairy tale. Everyone grows up hearing the stories of the prince getting his girl and living happily ever after. At least for girls I think it is the whole idea of "one day my prince will come", it is the whole idea of being swept off our feet by the man of our dreams. I think everyone gets caught up in it. Here is the story of a lowly commoner that was chosen by the Prince to be his wife. His future Queen. For many people that are still searching for their mate, they have fantasisies about how they are going to meet their mate. How they are going to live their Happy Forever After. Personally I can't wait!!! I got my alarm for Friday set at 4am when it all starts, and my friend is hosting a Royal Wedding Party that we are all going to. She is serving wedding cake and tea!!!! We can't wait!!

In my opinion, William and Kate's wedding is fascinating to Americans today not only because we do not have royalty here, but also because of William's late mother, Princess Diana. She was such a celebrated person, everybody knew who she was and thought she was such a great role model. Most people were devastated when she passed. Princess Diana's son's fairy tale is coming true, its a positive thing during a negative time.

I think many people are genuinely happy for William and Kate. They have been together a very long time and seem to have a very solid relationship. William seems to have grown into a well raised, well balanced young man. He seems to have learned from his parent's mistake which was marrying the "proper" person without really knowing the person you are marrying. His mother was very miserable with her life even though she was royalty. William seems to have learned many lessons from the days he stuck kleenex under the door to his crying mother. Good luck to them both.

That is so nice that you are so excited. I hope you enjoy your party and the royal wedding but be warned......you can wait for your prince to come but in the end he will be only human, just as William is.....and every good marriage has those moments when he looks more like a frog than a prince :)

I have already found my prince lol...I have been VERY HAPPYLY married for 3 years. Our marriage is fantastic for so many reasons but one of them is the fact that we both understand that we are human. We are both flawed to a massive point. But we love each other despite those flaws! I am EXTREAMLY lucky to have my husband!!!!

  8. I would have to think that the people who are interested are mostly women. I think it has an air of a fairy tale story to it. Little girls are told from the begining that they are a little princess and then Disney help sells us on the whole fairy tale theme with all the Prince and Princess stories. So as a society we believe or want to believe in the fairy tale world. This is the reason soap operas do so well here too. It's a make believe world to escape the harsh realites of this world. There is alot of people who could only dream of such pomp and circumstance and all the pagentry that surrounds this wedding, so our dreams are lived vicariously through the Royal wedding party.

I think Americans are so fascinated by the royal wedding because we do not really have royalty in america. I believe another reason americans are so intrigued is because most families today are on such tight budgets and it's interesting to see all this money being spent on such a beautiful wedding. It's most peoples dream wedding.

I think Americans are so fascinated with royal weddings because we don't have royal families in America. You can only do so much with celebraties. I think it's also because we have grown up reading and watching fairy tales. So being fascinated with royal weddings like escaping back into our childhoods. We get to escape from the real world.

I believe people are so fascinated by the Royal Wedding for a number of reasons...
One of those reasons being that it is a happy event! We hear so much bad news all the time, but this is something that is very happy and exciting.
Another reason for Americans being fascinated is the fact that we don't have "royals" in our country. Sure we have a President, and we've seen past Presidents' children get married, but the President's children are not necessarily the future of our country. In England, these people are watching their probable future King marry their probable future Queen! It's tradition for them, so to speak. It's a family thing!
I also think that because Kate is relatable to everyone (because she was once a commoner) people are interested in that transition for her as well.
Obviously, we as Americans are not as into the whole thing as the British people are... but it is still a fun thing for us to keep up with. I think it is kind of like when our favorite celebrities get marreied... just on a much bigger scale!

I agree with you in saying that it is like a fairy tale! That is exactly what it is. The Prince and his soon to be Princess... That is another reason Americans are so into it... the only Princesses we know are Cinderella and Snow White, etc! haha! This is real!

In response to Caitlin Leake- I also agree that Princess Diana plays a role in America's fascination with the wedding. After her death, the world watched William and Harry grow up, and now to see one get married is very sweet!

The reason Americans are so fascinated with the royal wedding is because we still want things that are special in the world. Having said that, I also think that there are many people that are nostalgic with the things that happened with Prince Charles and Princess Diana. Although in my opinion, those things just happened and this particular royal wedding feels a little forced.

I agree with you, whether it's real or just media hype, Americans are drawn to that kind of story, and here's one "that's real".

I believe the enormous interest that many Americans are showing towards the royal wedding has two factors: the celebrity culture here in the States and the role that fairy tales have from the time we are born. The celebrity factor should explain itself as there are dozens upon dozens of magazines, blogs, and talk shows dedicated to it.

As for fairy tales, from the day that we are born, we grow up reading and watching such stories. There are the stories of a prince going on quests to find his bride, a prince waking the princess with a kiss, etc. In the case of William and Kate, it resembles Cinderella where the commoner girl meets the prince and falls in love.

While the celebrity obsession in this country tends to annoy me and I'm not very fond of royalty myself, I can understand why people find this intriguing. Royal weddings don't happen that often and it marks a changing of the generations in England, so it is a historic event. I also believe that most of us still have our own hopeful fairy tales, and this occasion just helps to feed the flames of those dreams. In all honesty, it may be a good thing, but it's just not something that I'm wholly interested in. My mom is a completely different story, ha.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Eric C.

I agree with Caitlin Leake, I think most of the fascination comes along with Princess Diana and her passing. Another reason is because there isn't any royalty here in the states, so people are easily engaged in this sort of thing. Most people weren't born into royalty so it is very interesting.

  18. Americans love stars whether they're from sports, music, movies, tv news, politics or any aspect of our society. British Royalty and especially Princess Diana's children are the most famous royals in the world, we've watched them their whole lives, we share a common language and national ancestry. I think sometimes we appreciate the pagentry, ceremony and tradition of the royals at least now that they're mostly just figureheads.

It is a real life fairy tale come to life. The last royal wedding was of course in the last century 1982. Most Americans are so amazed at the pomp and circumstance of a royal wedding, the glitz, glamour, traditions, and ceremony. Most Americans want The Cinderella story to come true. A lot of Americans have roots from across the pond and feel a kinship. Most Americans are so down due to our economic situation. We want happiness and not gloom and doom every day. It’s an escape for a little while from all the negative news.

I think for most people and not to be chauvinistic, but this is for women who grew up listening to the bed time story`s Snow White, Cinderella, and so on looking for that Prince Charming all ladies are looking for that Prince and this lady actually found one plus we really don`t have any kind of royalty in the United States. I understand the fascination for women I cannot for men unless that is part of your culture.

I hope they are happy to, but to say that his mom made a mistake is a little unfair she was most likely in love when she married him, but being married is just like the lottery your taking a chance there will always be factors in life that can change a person how you deal with them as a couple decides. I have been married 28yrs and it is a work in progress not hard work, but work, and it is worth it to me, but not to everybody. Plus it is human nature to think the grass is always greener on the other side.

It is the all time favorite “Once upon a time”. Prince Charming met his Cinderella, and they are getting married. I am fascinated about the wedding because it’s like a fairy tale in real life. We do not have Royalty here in the States, much less a Royal Wedding. It’s not like we see someone spend millions of dollars on a wedding everyday.

I understand how it can be annoying to see a wedding overpower broadcast. Its a girly girl thing that grabs so much attention, we see our dream wedding on tv. The good think after all this is that it will be over by Friday; or at least until Price Harry finds his princess.

I think that we are so fascinated because we don't have royal weddings here in the United States, because she comes a middle class unroyal background, and because the royal family hasn't had much of a happy ending in years. Its exclusive and top notch. It will be over the top and beautiful. As Americans we have started to make the insitute of marriage more about the actual wedding. So this wedding is very important for some Americans. And for those of us looking for wedding ideas for our speical day, a royal wedding is the best place to get ideas from

I think that Princess Diana is a big part of the reason the americans are so intrigued by the wedding. She was an icon in american history as well as her own country. America was her "foreign escape" and I feel that she thought of the states as home too. For that said Prince William was always big news to us and I feel that we have always kept him in our american news. He is a well maintained man and he has always been a role model to us that has never been a disapointment. Something we rarely can say about anyone in the news anywhere. It is a magical event due to the story of Cinderella and so many others that we grew up with. Its like a good book you dont want to put down. And I feel that it is great for Americans to be so "in to it" because im sure he will make a fine king one day!

I honestly think people are so into the Royal couple is because the soon to be princess does not come from a royal background. As a child growing up wanting that fairy tale life and meeting a prince and becoming a princess this royal couple is just that. Also Its the Late Princess Diana's son who she taught them well of how to give back and learn to be like everyone else. As you can see Prince William is trying to be normal as possible and he found a normal girl in the process.I hope they have a wonderful life together and i will be watching this couple get married if televised because this is truely a romantic story from what I read about how they met.

I think the Americans made a big deal out this marriage; certainly for them there is a celebrity aspect to it. Whenever people are famous, other people take notice. The Royal Family, while public figures and celebrities, they are in a different category. No one does pomp and ceremony better. The Americans also love these kind of fairytale set in the royal’s castle. Some of the news media really overeacted about this marriage.

I think everyone is so interested in the royal wedding, because, like a lot of people said, it's a fairy tale. The Prince finally found someone to marry so that he can become King.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Chucky C Online

In response to Devyn G, I think is more than finding some one to marry so that he can become King. The throne has a cultural heritage that can be traced back to ancient civilization. So any one to ascend to such a throne is seen as a "god" in a society that practice monarchy. The value placed on such throne even in toady’s world can't be over emphasized.

    ReplyDelete

Americans are so fascinated with the royal wedding of Williams and Kate because such royal wedding is not common in the world. From history any wedding that involves the royal family where monarchy is practice has always drawn the attention of people all over the world. The situation of Williams and Kate is something very normal. The wedding is a way of maintaining a culture (monarchy society) that used to be center of which, all ancient civilization was based. The most influential and most powerful position in the past.

If you look and try hard enough you can find the prince or princess in any of our significant others. We are all human and make mistakes but we do good things at times too. The royal family is no different than any other family, they put their pants on just like I do, one leg at a time. Yes,they have more money and more fame and noteriety than most of us but we tend to forget that they have exactly the same feelings that we all have.

I am really not sure why Americans are so enthralled about the royal wedding of ENGLAND?

All I can think of is that some Americans wish it was them, they are living there lives vicariously through them. Or maybe it is one of the few things that actually has a positive story behind it in the media right now and people are just grasping for anything to make them feel better.

I think Americans are so fascinated with the Royal Wedding is because their is no other royalty that we recongnize in our American society today. The fact that the media has followed the relationship of Prince Charles and Princess Diana from the time they were married;to having kids; to becoming divorce; then the death of Diana; to watching young men mature without their beloved mother in their lives. William and Kate is now considered somewhat as an ongoing happy legacy unlike his parents relationship that ended. Americans wished the best for his William's parents. Now William will not only make the world proud by this event , he would had made his dearest mother proud. This wedding is somewhat of a childhood fairytale that actually will become a reality. So many Americans are happy for them because they are a young couple of royalty that is part of an "ongoing soap opera with a wonderful turning point".

I think people are very interested in this wedding for 2 reasons:

    1. I think because England is a monarchy not a democracy people are facinated because its a different lifestyle than what we have therefore, it draws our attention.

I think that Americans are fascinated with the Royal Wedding for a number of different reasons. First of all, this is a very happy occaision and for most Americans, it is a nice diversion from our economic woes. Secondly, Princess Diana had such an wonderful impact on the world through her charitable work. Since she has passed, I think most people feel that she lives on in her sons, especially William and they feel a closeness to her through her son. Thirdly, and I get this from my daughters.......it's a magical, feel good fairy tale sort of wedding. From all of the Disney movies, who doesn't want the hopes of someday meeting their Prince Charming, and if it happened to the commoner Kate, it could happen to anyone. As for watching the wedding, I watched Charles and Diana wed when I was in college the first time, so I will not be setting my alarm to catch this one. I will probably however, watch snippets of it on the news shows later in the day!

I think that the reason Americans are so fascinated with the royal wedding is because of the fairytale stories almost every American grows up on. Cinderella falling in love with the prince is a really good example. Also because Princess Diana was such a huge public figure, people want to see her sons marry and fantasize about what it would be like to actually be a part of the wedding. Its weird because they aren't even American yet we are glued to our tvs when they are on news shows. Some of us do come from prestigious backgrounds and really think of ourselves as kings, queens, princes, and princesses. So, I just think it depends on who you ask because some Americans consider themselves from royalty too.

I think people are interested in any celebrity's wedding, for some reason. William just being a Prince just adds to the hype. I do think it is exciting because of the history of England. We envisioned the grand weddings and court of long ago England and we finally get to see what it is like for ourselves. I would have to disagree with you. Of course there are some gossip magazines that want to talk about how their marriage won't last, but you got to consider the validity of those sources. They will pull up romantic flings that happened a few years ago and say that they will end up cheating. They do that with any celebrity. Other than that, I don't think America is being negative about it. In fact, America is really excited about the wedding. England did used to be apart of us not too long ago, really. A lot of us have British in our blood and we still like to feel connected to England. We have helped them and been their allies, so of course the country as a whole is excited for the wedding.

It was a nice diversion to hear about something different for a change even if people are tired of hearing about it. I wish them the best.

I believe that Americans are so interested in the wedding because it is a fairytale wedding. Americans would love to have an endless amount of money to spend on their wedding to make it perfect but since that's not common we live the dream through them. It's also a fairy tale because it's a prince and princess. It's always a childhood dream to be from a royal family.

I honestly don't know why people are obsessed with them. I think it may be because of the fairy tale that everyone was read when they were younger. Prince and princess finally getting married and then becoming king and queen ruling their country. I don't care for them because it doesn't affect me.

I think that Ameicans are fascinated with the royal wedding, becuase people love the idea of the fairy tale. when girls grow up they have the idea of wanting to be a princess and everything, and the wedding lives out the fairytale. Also people want to watch it because England is one of the last few places with royalty, and has Americans we dont have that so it intrigues us.

  73. I think Americans are fascinated with the Royal Wedding because, well, it's the only few connections we have with the old times of princes and princesses. It also probably has to due with most people easily amused by really adorable things and a Royal Wedding could be one of those adorable things. I say this because the two could be an adorable couple. Ya know? Of course ya know.

    ReplyDelete
  74. I don't think Americans are fascinated at all with the wedding. I think the media feels as if it is a story that they have to cover. I don't know one person (in life or online) that has any interest in any way. For those that are interested, I think it is because of the legacy Princess Diana left and the general interest people have of children. By that I mean that since she was so popular and died a tragic death, naturally people think it's nice to see her children grow up and find happiness. In fact, my children protested this morning when I turned on the news (which normally they'd watch) and it was all about a wedding dress and oen mile walk to the aisle. They changed it to Ben 10.

Great observation J.B. Why aren't the weddings so promoted? hmmm...Perhaps the UK PAYS us to promote their wedding for their own internal PR? It would be a good PR move for the Monarchy. After all, if they show how popular they are and how interesting they are, surely the Brits won't stop supporting them via tax dollars? HA!!

I think that the reason Americans are so fascinated with William and Kate's wedding is due to it is classified as the American Dream. Just about every girl grows up with the fantasy of meeting prince charming and getting married. For females it is like watching your childhood fantasies come to life. It is everything you dream about, from the wedding dress, the ring, all the guest, and the ceremony itself. Not to mention with all the other crisis going on around us, it is nice to see something positive and sweet happening.

I think Americans have such a fascination with the Royal Wedding because we do not have royalty. The concept of royalty and castles and happily ever after is in fairy tales and for us is not reality. Their way of life is so different from our that it is impossible not to be fascinated.

I think there are several reasons why Americans are fascinated with the Royal Wedding of Will and Kate. It is every girl's dream to grow up and marry Prince Charming. We may marry who we view as our Prince Charming, but we get to watch Kate make the fairy tale come true by truly marrying a Prince. We have been able to watch Will's life from his close relationship to his Mother, to seeing the sorrow of losing her at such an early age, and it is nice to actually see true happiness for him again.

  85. Martha-Jane A.

I think it's because we have strong historical ties to England. We were once just 13 British colonies, and a lot of us (not the majority), have ancestors from the U.K. I think it's a strange, watered-down version of people subconsciously tipping their hats to the, I dunno...motherland? It may seem like I'm reading into it too much, but when was the last time you heard all of this hoopla about any other country's royal wedding? That's why I don't think it's just about the fairy tale and the Disney movies and what-not. Yes, those factors tie in, but I just think it's more than that.

I think that Americans are so fascinated about the royal wedding because it gives people a chance to imagine what it would be like if they were royalty. I think that Americans are not only fascinated with the royal wedding but also the royal family. The reason for that is simply enough because we don't have it here in America. It is nice to think that actual kings and queens actually excist like in the Disney movies. This wedding in particular is not only intriguing because it's "the royal wedding" but 1-It is Princess Diana's son and 2- The Prince is marrying a commoner which only happens in fairy tales.

I was a little girl and still remember Princess Diana's long train at her wedding. I believe Americans started following the Royal family after the wedding of Diana and Charles. We followed the birth of their two sons, the rocky marriage, the divorce, Diana's goodwill and her untimely death. We watched the boys grow up. So I believe automatically we would be interested in the wedding and the pricess William choose. To Americans the Royal Family has always been a real life Cinderella and her Prince Charming.

I think Americans are so fascinated by the Royal Wedding because we do not have royalty here in the US. We are amazed that an entire country can come together to celebrate just two peoples marriage and it become a nations celebration. William and Kate have been together for a long time and it makes us believe that fairy tales really can happen. I know from a women’s perspective this wedding is not only about them but the hopes that we too can find our “prince charming”. Katie woke up as a common person and she will fall asleep as a princess. That is every girls dream.

I think people are so interested in the royal wedding because they are famous and most of the world is treating like a huge deal. I think that society, specifically the United States, has an obsession with celebrities and the lifestyles that they lead. I mean, honestly, we have magazines telling us why this cuople broke up and who is hooking with who. We have Facebook and Twitter so we know exactly what celebrities are up to, as well as our friends, family members, neighbors, etc. You get the point. We are becoming obsessed with complete strangers because of their fame.

I think America is so fascinated because as a society we tend to thrive off of some sort of drama (good or bad). I believe Americans are so fascinated with the royal wedding because we were fascinated with Princess Diana, and the fact that her son Prince William looks exactly like her. I think Americans are also fascinated because I think we take some sort of blame or responsibility for Princes Diana's tragic death therefore watching her son's lives in the media and making sure they are protected was a way of giving back to Princes Di's legacy of giving. I watched in the summer of 1997 her funeral with watered eyes and felt compassion for her two boys. Their mother, the princess seemed to be real person, personable, and beautiful inside as well as out. I believe she changed the way we Americans viewed the royal family. I don't believe we were much interested in the royal family before Princess Dianna. So If Americans are so fascinated with the royal wedding it maybe because we feel we owe it to the princess to see that her first son, Prince William have his fairytale.
