Forever Young

A billionaire in the Bahamas has been taking stem cell therapy and is showing signs of reversing the aging process. He wants to invest in research for further use of stem cell therapy.

Here are the questions of the week. Please answer BOTH question.
1. Would you want to reverse aging for yourself?
2. What are some SOCIETAL issues that might arise if masses of people were able to reverse the aging process?
Here is a link to more on the story:

  1. I would not want to reverse the aging process on myself. However, I would be interested in the possibility of slowing it down or in some way of reducing/eliminating things like Alzheimer's and dementia so that quality of life might be maintained to a certain extent.
As for societal issues that may arise if the aging process was reversed, I see more of a conflict between the truly young and the "newly young" when it comes to jobs, property ownership, and resources. As it is, people get older, retire, and then die. If people no longer got older, they would not need to retire from their jobs, so no younger replacements would be needed; they would not feel the need to sell the house and move to a retirement community, so younger families would be in competition for housing, which would drive the cost higher; with nobody getting old and dying, the population would grow to the point that available resources could not sustain it. With the increased cost of living, lack of property and resources, the next logical step would be war and conquest to obtain land and resources.
As sad is death is, it is a necessary part of life. And the possibility (or reality) that we could do something to change that does not mean that we should.

    1. Hi Chris,
Death is a part of the life we live now but if this were a real possibility for the masses, the world around us would change and so would our resources. Death doesn't have to be a part of life if one can preserve the human body to function to its maximum potential above what is the current norm. Now of course I have no idea what that would look like but all those sci fi movies make it look like a possibility. Z

Your points are well taken. As much as all of us dread our eventual deaths, we will one day have to face them. Death is a natural part of life that allows us to make room for new life to emerge. If nothing else maybe we can take comfort in the fact that we are helping the continuation of the human race. After all the thought of living for ever does seem awful selfish!

Oh yeah, I would definitely want to reverse the aging process for myself. I'm in my early thirties but sometimes my mind and body feels like I am way older. Most of the time people aren't satisfied with what they have and if this was possible and affordable, I would definitely be in line and looking good!
Everything would change if this was a common practice among the people of the world. Ones age would not be a determining factor in many areas as well as peoples health being positively affected by this transformation. It would seem as though people would live longer and the determination of beauty would definitely change.

I completely agree with you! I'm not in my 30s, but I want to look young and stay young. And if we already have the stem cells handy, why not put them to good use. They have tested well in other areas like fighting cancer. They're totally beneficial!

I would love to reverse my aging process when I started hitting my early 30s. There's so much I would love to still do and be young and energetic to enjoy it all. It could also possible help the terminally I'll live longer and enjoy the things they wanted to or like someone commented already, help the people suffering from memory loss.

I do believe though that if everyone started reversing their age then it will cause a huge economic crisis and downfall. There will be too many people and not enough jobs to supple. Our poverty level would rise. Pollution would worsen and we would become over populated. Families would become packed together and there would be fights over resources and housing. It would corrupt a whole system and people would be able to lie easier about there age and sex offenders or older adults could trick underagers. Age and the younger you look is going to be a huge standard for beauty which is already a problem this country has.

This is a very interesting and applaudable study and one that everyone would want for themselves including myself but there are too many cons than pros in my opinion for this to be provided to anyone and everyone.

    1. I agree with you, as fun as it may sound, especially being able to have do-overs, the cons definitely outweigh the pros and it would cause an even more serious issue in this world. If we thought it was bad now with how our economy is set up and the way that we are overpopulated now, then just imagine how it would be if EVERYONE could back in time. On the other hand, this isn't saying that they are reversing aging and staying young forever, this could also reverse age and we die at a young age instead of being an elderly person.

I have read a lot about the topic of stem cell research and came to the conclusion that this is the cure for most disease! the government will not let the research further in America because of religious beliefs and the fact that they need embryo DNA. After knowing this I will say that I support the research and I would love to go through reverse aging. I would also like the fact that stem cells can treat cancer and several other things; incase it is needed in the future. I think some of the societal issues would be the economy for sure, over population, higher life expectancy, religious problems. These issues are exactly why they have cut the funding in America and why the guy in the article had to go to a different country and buy his own medical research center and employee his own scientists to further the stem cell research for him.

It is true that stem cell research holds the potential to treat and possibly cure a variety of diseases. If we could cure cancer, that would be great. But reversing the aging process? In addition to the possible consequences that you, I, and others have listed, another that comes to mind is the loss of any sense of urgency. Gone would be the timetables that people set for themselves (graduate by early 20's, choose a career in mid-20's,start a family in their late 20's, early 30's for a few examples). In other words, people may out off "normal" things because there would be no rush. Based on our reading, the life course, and the structure of society in general, these plans are necessary and without them, society may suffer further.

I would not personally want to reverse aging for myself. I do want scientist to find a cure for all diseases like Cancer and Alzheimer's to make the qualitity of life better. I feel that some issues if people live longer would be over population and there would not be enough food to feed everyone or housing.

  6. Chris I totally agree with you. Death is most definitely a part of the cycle of life. We do what we can to live our life tp our full potential, and take the best care of our bodies while we are here with diet and exercise. The rest is out of our control and God's plan.

  7. I most definitely would not want to reverse the aging for myself. I have had a wonderful 32 years and look forward to spending whatever time that I have left here with my family and I know that my God has greater plans for me that what this world holds. If scientist could find cures for cancers and diseases to help others who are in pain and suffering, that would be amazing, but prolonging life is wrong. Death is inevitable; it's part of the circle of life.
You thing your insurance is high now? If masses of people were to start living longer thing what your insurance premiums would be then. You're worried about SSI now..SSI won't exist if people are living longer. The cost of everything will go up because there will be so many people and not enough resources. Sometimes just because you can do something doesn't mean that it's a good idea to do it.

  8. Hello,

In my opinion, although it may be cool and may help a lot of people out where they can go back and change things about their life and time, or just have a do over as a adult again, it would also to me be a very insane and wrong thing to do. LIFE is about child-adult-elderly-childlike state-death. It's the cycle of life we go through and if we try to change that, our world would become way more overpopulated than it is right now. Who are we in my opinion to change what God has intended for us. Yes, that's what technology and the new age of world is all about, but we have way too many people in this world now, why would we become an adult, to have children, to become young again, as appealing as it may sound, it's also very dangerous, we as a people would lose morals, and be out of touch with reality.

I don't think I would want to reverse aging, but then again I'm not that old. Later on in my life when I start showing signs of aging my opinion might change. Still, as of right now I am looking forward to growing old. If mass people started to use stem cell therapy to reverse aging the world would over populate. Older people that would suppose to be dying wouldn't and babies would continue to be born. Also I think that kind of power, yes it is a power, would get to peoples heads. The would think that they have cheated death and that would make them lose their touch with reality.

Although I would want stem cell research as an older man to reverse aging an for me to enjoy life longer, In societal terms if it was on a mass scale would disrupt the cycle of life an therefore over population would occur an would trigger massive unhealthy effects. Resources in the world would become harder to come by and medical staff would be overwhelmed with how many people are living longer. Overall it may be okay for the individuals that can afford to do it financially, However in massive population setting it would lead to disaster.

      W. Harvey.90 I totally agree with you. Everyone wants to enjoy life. However, death is an essential part of life. There is no escaping it. Pro-longing it might be a good thing, but escaping and reversing the aging process would be very detrimental not only to society, but nature as well. Since the beginning of time, humans have been trying to escape things that are a part of the natural process of aging and time. Even plastic surgery goes along with this idea of reversing aging and fixing things to make the appearance more appealing and younger-looking. Ultimately, humans want to be in control of themselves and not God. I think this is one of those things that appears to be a great thing, but we don't even know what the side effects of this is going to be yet. Everything that is not natural has a side effect. And chances are, the side effects of this phenomenal idea may not be worth the risk.

  11. Although the reverse of aging would be a great things, I think that finding cures for certain disease through the stem cell research would benefit the world more than the creation of more vein people. Also the question of cost would also come into play, would all be offered this cure for aging are will it be just be for the rich and famous as it is now? If new research is developed but made available to a select few how then does that benefit the world. I would not want to reverse the aging myself. I am happy to be where I am and who I am, life and death is all part of God's plan and who are we to try and change that order? Living healthy with exercise and what we eat are the keys to living longer and looking younger.

  12. I think the whole thing is crazy. Come on guys. The rich and powerful are literally buying life. Which works out great for them. But what about us? I dont wanna live longer. I live my life until the day I die and then its over. I dont want more time on this earth. Especially if this is the price. The power structure will never change. Everything will fall apart and our resources will be depleted. Society will die and the rich and powerful will keep on living on in their private worlds.

  13. KatelynN97: Who wouldn't want to stop aging? Getting older means that your body is getting tired and is wearing out. Health problems accompany old age, and who wants to hurt all the time? I can see how this would create a social problem and cause an even greater gap between the upper and lower classes. Over population is already a problem in today's society and if the older generations live longer, the population will obviously increase. This makes me think of a conversation that I had with my grandpa. This also makes me think of Benjamin Button. What would life be like if we could experience the wisdom of old age in a youthful body?

  14. Shantal Acevedo 40796

    1) Personally, I would probably be somewhat disturbed if I came into contact with a person who's body age is 90 and they look significantly younger. I guess I would experience something along the same lines as "culture shock", instead it would be named "aging shock". I probably wouldn't get it for myself. I enjoy seeing the different stages of life. I am also fascinated with what happens to the body, naturally, in the later years. Growing old is a privilege that is denied to many. I dont want to look "in my prime" the rest of my life. I personally prefer a "little rough around the edges". I'm not so vain that I would feel I would get this. I cant speak for my older self, but right now, I highly doubt I would.

    2) Societal problems? It would be along the same lines as why the fountain of youth was concealed from people. Some people would probably and literally kill for it. Would it be available to the "lower" classes of people or is it going to be saved for the smartest andrichest people in the world? Would it create another "must have" in the modeling business and create another idea of what people should look like? I'm not exactly comfortable with that idea.

I really enjoyed reading your post. I like that you said, "Growing old is a privilege that is denied to many". I also feel the same way, but you said it much better than I did. I'm not sure that it's right to say, "I look forward to being old," but I do look forward to the wisdom that it brings.

I would consider the thought of reverse aging for myself, but I doubt that I would go through with it. I have a great family and yes I would like to live forever, but I believe that finding cures for all disease through stem cell research would raise a great benefit for the world. I don't want to see myself and/or individuals in this state. The shell would possibly freak me out. The plan for us is to age naturally and to allow life to take it's course, we all must die one day.
I think some of the societal issues and or problems could start with a scene from the walking dead. The world would suffer from over population and elevated criminal acts of violence.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Chelsea N.90 I personally would like to remain looking young forever, or at least pro-long my age, who doesn't? But is this truly possible? And what are the risks? The side effects of this phenomenon may not be as grand as the idea itself. In society, it can cause a lot of problems with identifying people as a certain age. It also will create a road block when it comes to the natural process of people dying off and there being new birth to take the place of death. With fewer people aging and dying off, the population as a whole will become more crowded and a lack of resources expanding there after. Jobs may become scarce as well with fewer openings. I do think that it can be beneficial to help cure disease. But in nature, we need death as well as we do new birth. Not prolonging life and new birth. This doesn't equate in nature and nature will have its revenge if this is to really take place. Just like celebrities can afford plastic surgery, so should this be something that is a luxury and not freely handed out to anyone in the public. God has a reason why he created death. Are we really trying to play the role of God and deciding when we should and shouldn't die?

I think that if we have the resources and ability to reverse the aging process that it would be a great idea and I also don't think it would be going against Gods will. God gave us brains to use and educate ourselves. If we had the ability to live for a longer period of time I'm sure he would be okay with it, if not he has the power to change it. Thinking from a realistic standpoint on how hard this process is to comprehend, I'm guessing this is just some crazy 80 year old rich man pulling a business stunt because of his fear of death. Any 80 year old can grow their hair out, put on a v-neck, and do some push-ups and say they feel younger but has he really come up with a process that would reverse aging? If so why hasn't the FDA approved it? I think this is a laughable matter and I don't take this guy serious at all. If the United States authorities won't back it, then it is a little too sketchy for me.

I will definitely want to revise aging for myself. Why? first of all doing that will save me tons of money. Been young is everyone dreams because we all look attractive and cute at this stage but when we are getting older, our beauty and attractiveness start to fail away. Been young will be a huge benefit to our society and it will also pave a good and healthy society for future generation. However, for every good things, there is a negative aspect. I believe some of the negative aspects of this will have to do with the decisions we make, our actions, our words and the people we socialize with. Remember we cant get old so some people choices and action may affect our society and the people around us. Even though we cant get old, but the causes of death will still be the same.

I would not necessarily want to reverse ageing on my self but if the stem cells could give me a better quality of life in old age by reducing the chances of diseases, cancers, and all those problems that old people get then I am all for it.
I think the main social issues would be, how the stem cells are harvested and how the economy could handle it if people would be living longer and more healthier lives. The reason stem cell research is not as big as it should be is because the most common way to harvest stem cells is by a women donating fertilized eggs. Many people find this to be considered "abortion". Also, if people were living longer and healthier lives then they would be working longer and causing the younger generations to no be able to find a job as easily. Another problem is how the earth could handle such a population. We are already seeing population overflow in countries such as China so how would we be able to accommodate everyone if they were living to be 200 years old.

Does a bear sleep in the woods? Yes I would like to be able to reverse aging for myself and other family members like my grandma. I;m sure other families would like to as well. Although I'm only 24 years old, I know that one day I will be old and if I had the ability to reverse my aging process I would be more than willing. I also have family members like my grandmother who are getting older who I would love to see get healthier and younger. Although the concept is hard to grasp let's think for a second about if it were possible and there was a way to reverse the aging process how it would effect our culture. I ponder the idea and the first thing I think of is how expense the process would be and if the process was legit. I feel like the process would be so expensive that it would only be available to the wealthier class. Causing more minority groups and more of a gap in our social classes. It sounds like a great idea and if there is a way to carry out reversing the aging process more power to us, but I just don't see it working out how this man thinks. I would have to see proof to believe that it wasn't just some business promotion to make money. Any 80 year old man can grow his hair out, wear a V-neck, and do a couple push-ups to make himself feel younger. Does the process really reverse aging and if so why hasn't the FDA approved it.

Wow what a terrifying question! Would I reverse aging for myself? No, absolutely not. I know that stem cell research is more than about the aging process, it's about finding cures for once "incurable" diseases. I am glad that this man is providing money for such a noble cause, but at the same time I would never want to become what he has. A 70 year old man should be full of wisdom and experience, instead he acts like an adolescent. What do people live for when they are going to live forever? Careers and families become meaningless because, "I'll always be able to get to that later". Not only is life a precious gift, but so is death. It teaches us to treasure what we have while we have it and to not take unnecessary risks. Of course I want to stay young and healthy as long as I can, but at the same time, I can't wait for my hair to turn grey and for people to ask me for advice simply because I've been through life and made it. Call me old fashioned, but I would never want to live forever.

I would never want to reverse aging for myself because I can't change God's plan. He created human to live for ever, but after Adam and Eve disobey him, death became the consequence or a price to pay. Whether we like it or not there is nothing that we can do to change it. All medications have side effect, so I believe that stem cell also have side effect. For example people who use makeup, they use it to look beautiful, but after a few years, and by using it too often they look older than they are.
To answer the second question, I think if masses of people were able to reverse the aging process the world would be overpopulated, and as a result of that there won't be enough food, job, housing not to mention more traffic and crime.

Does this stem cell therapy reverse the mental state as well as the appearances? The point im at in my life I would not want to reverse the aging process. People have issues with mortality and as they get older they see it as a flaw. The idea of beauty has been butchered in todays world so that only things such as being super skinny, young, and reveling. Problems with an anti aging process would be that the concept of age would no longer exist. A 25 yr old would look the same as a 50 yr old. Intelligence and life lessons are gained through experience but how will we know who has the life experience if they look the same as we do in our twenties.

That's a very valid point, it doesn't talk that much about mental degredation only the effects it has on someone's physical aspects... So potentially you can look and feel like you're 21 but have the mental capacity of being 70 - which could be both good and bad.

Of course I would and who really wouldn't like to remain forever young. Its hard to say no now but believe me if that time was here every body would be for it. Why do people dye their hair, or apply makes that they never used to when they were young? To look younger so as for me if there is something that guarantee my beauty without having to go through this every day then I would frankly welcome it. The only problem, it looks as if only the very wealthy will benefit from this, for others like me is just a dream. The fact that this Stems can cure diseases like Cancer and Alzheimer's and never have to worry about finding a cure is great.
When it comes to Societal issues, then I will say it is a big concern. There will be shortages of job, housing, transportation, hospitals, food and many more due to too many people. Also conflict within families, a lot crimes to name a few would all be associated with this.

I would not reverse the aging process on myself because of the fact it should not be possible to do. You should just let life takes its course and grow old.

Some issues that would come with a mass amount of people being able reverse their aging process is age would not truly be known. It is kind of scary if this could happen and you go on a date with someone who looks 25 but is really 75.

    1. After first hearing about reversing your age process, I was totally for it who wouldn't want to live longer then the average death age? Then it hit me who really would want to live for more then 100 years or even forever if technology can make this statement possible. I sure wouldn't want to live that long. Life already brings enough stress itself so why prolong it, i'm not saying life doesn't have its pros. I believe people die for a reason, and when its your time to go you should not alter with nature.
    2. If huge masses of people are reversing their age this will cause many problems to society. If people don't die while people are contently being born were will these children be living in 30 Years? Society will be over populated, and food supplies will be cut short.

I am sure that i would not want to reverse the aging process for myself because i already look younger than i am. I believe that it is also unnatural to do something like reversing the aging process. But i feel that this could be really beneficial if doing this did things like reversing problems that come with age like blindness and Alzheimer's. We as humans aren't age to age in reverse. If we were then we would be doing that already. If people are able to reverse the aging process all together then we would experience drastic overpopulation because people are living longer than intended. What I do find intriguing is that it can be used for medical purposes. If this able to cure a lot of diseases then I say go for it. This is along the same lines as cloning in a since. If it works work it, but we all will have to do sooner or later. Remember the young die just as the old do.

I don't think reversing the aging process is a good idea at all. It's almost going against how God made the world to be. You're supposed to age, and eventually you're supposed to die. As cool as it sounds to stay young forever, it's not realistic and it's not how it's supposed to be. I think in society, it would cause some serious problems as well. Most likely, people will want to age back to their college days, maybe high school days, and then almost everyone would be around the same age. Everyone contributes to society in different ways, and if everyone was the same age, it would really mess things up. I also think that as people are becoming younger and not dying, the world could become overpopulated.

Time marches on, and we have no choice but to be dragged along with it. I feel that the life cycle exists for a reason, we are born we live and we die and make way for newer life. We each go through our lives knowing that one day we will eventually die, which is mostly unsettling, but it also provides some comfort or security by giving us a since of finality to our lives. I am not against human beings defying the aging process as best we can, but I could not imagine living for say hundreds of years. This might sound stupid, but I think I would get bored. I mean what would people do with a life time that ran hundreds of years? Would we just keep on working? Or would we still retire at sixty five? God, just imagine what that would do to the social security system! But at the point where human being are able to live hundreds of years I’m sure social security will probably be the least of our problems. What will be more troublesome would be the rapid overpopulation of the planet. Every species has a certain rate of birth to death ratio, and every species has it limiting factor that prohibits their population from growing exponentially. The human race has yet to find this factor, our population has been allowed to grow exponentially for the past 200 or so years. Yet if life spans were to increase there is no telling what could happen to the population. It would certainly cause it to expand to the point that we, one, push out other species from our environment (though this is already happening), two, it could cause mass food shortages, and three, it would cause us to use up the planets natural resources more quickly. Now I know I just kind of went to the extreme here and said that what this one billionaire is doing with stem cell therapy is going to ruin the world and cause the apocalypse, which is probably not entirely true. But it is certainly something to keep in mind. The human race will one day eventually reach the planet’s carrying capacity, and prolonging lifetimes will greatly contribute to this future problem. At that point difficult decisions would have to be made, such as who gets the food and resources, the young or the old? But who knows maybe some new types of unlimited food sources will be invented that allows humans to live longer and reproduce in greater amounts, without cause shortages, let’s just hope it is not Soylent green. As a side note, who would actually have access to this type of treatment in a supposed future society where people can live as long as they like? Would it just be the richest of the rich? And if so, does that mean that people’s life are only as important as how much they are able to pay? Which brings up another question about our current healthcare system around the world, weather the riches country are able to pay for longer life times, while those in poorer countries must die an earlier death because they are unable to pay for premium health care. I am not a socialist, it is just a question. But I suppose that is a question for another time. Anyway, I am off subject I should stop writing now.

  36. Amanda B 96 I feel like many people want to feel young again by all the creams that are out there, surgery, and now a stem cell. To me I would not want to take the stem cell to make me look younger, your body is suppose to age by every year you get older. We dont know for a fact that the stem cell will help look young for a long time, and how many do you have to take a day or even for the rest of your life to look in your 40s when your almost 70 years old. If stem cell is used to cure cancer, or a disease that we dont know how to cure then thats fine, but people that use this just to make them look younger is outrages. Some of the things that would come up would be how much money would the stem cells be if people do want to use this for you to make you look younger. Of course the rich and famous would be able to get this first and then they would go to the middle class, and the the lower class. Many people I also think will become additive and will have to the stem cell like a drug user. To me I think we need all need to think some people when they get older have wrinkles, or have grey hair but you should embrace your beauty even if you are 70 years old.

I am very sure that i wouldn’t reverse my aging for any meaningless reason. I think god has a plan for us and knows the reason why we age; which I think it is not proper for us human to reverse it. I think it is natural to age and we are to embrace it willing. Looking at the medical aspect of this, I think there would be a lot of side effect to the process. Why the need to reverse aging while it could cause you a lot more.

  38. Reverse aging sounds like an awesome idea (for me and my family). I guess I'm selfish but I would hate to see my parents die and would definitely put them through this process just so I can have them with me for a longer time. It could also be beneficial for people who have revolutionized the world (Steve Jobs comes to mind). On the other hand, it wouldn't be for the society. It's most likely that commonfolk wouldn't even have access to it and it would mainly be for the elite to stay in power. If everyone had access to it, with no one dying of old age and/or natural causes, that would be a heck of a lot of mouths to feed and would cause widespread starvation.

I personally i would not like to reverse my age because i think this might reverse even my mind making my reasoning capacity to back up. I would be happy if the researchers come up with something that will be able to cure all the diseases and pain so that i can be able to enjoy my old age being strong and health. If many people reverse their ages,i think there will be scarcity of resources such as,food shelter job, water and many more. This will lead many people to be poor and idle hence practicing other ways of surviving like stealing, drug abusing and murdering. Also many people will not trust much in religion because they will assume that there is no spiritual God because man had a power to make them live longer.

That's true too. If it's available to everyone, then our places in society would definitely be skewed. Not necessarily everyone would want to live their old days, but with age comes maturity and wisdom and with no one aging, it would definitely change the structure of society as we know it.

I would not be interested in reversing my age at this moment because i am only in my 20s and still have a lot of life to live. i feel that if i was to do that i would go back to being a baby. Now if it was older and was at the stage where i could do anything and weak then yes i would reverse my age. i would reverse it back to 20 years old no more then that. Also just because he did not have any side affects don't mean that there is none. For him there might not be but everyone's body is different and reacts diffrently to things. Having the whole would do it can be a good thing and also a bad.It will be good because there would be little to no deaths and bad due to over population. Also if no one is retiring then it would be super hard to get a job.

I would love to reverse the aging process it would allow you to live a healthy life style. In my family my dad has issues with his skin ripping open when he barely gets hit by something as well as having a nasty bruise. If we can reverse the aging this could make it where his skin is tougher and won't bruise or break so easy. Now if the masses are to start using this there would be a huge issue of age identity which can cause issues in different occasions. First off if someone is 68 and looks 30 they could deceive people around them into unfair advantages like health care that is needed to save a young mans life that would then go to a elderly men who looks younger and has a higher chance of dying from the operation and leaving that young man who needed it and who would have lived through the operation in the cold to die at a early age.

I think that would be a horrible idea because god made the human body to live no longer than 105 the oldest.
If they come up with this idea we know is only going to benefit the rich, instead they should release the cure for cancer and AIDS. If they release the cure for this horrible diseases a lot of young people and kids can benefit from it, kids don't deserve to die without the opportunity to a second chance. But once again, they are focus on the wrong group of people. I'm not saying that old people should die but if I'm 70 years old and I have the opportunity to save a kids life I would without thinking twice.

There would be severe amount of societal issues. Most of all the religions would have the massive amount of saying in the actions and or the research already in theory already. Furthermore, the idea is great, but this project would benefit the more wealthy as the time go by. Also this would cause an overpopulation in the world like we are facing in the middle east, such as, china, Japan and India.

Personally I would not like to reverse my age. I have learned so much already and I know the older you get more and more challenges come a board and you learn more and more each step of the way. To me every year you get older you have something to look forward too. I just turned 18 and I was so excited to go buy a lottery ticket!
For the second question I believe it would cause a huge amount of societal issues. People are made to learn more as time goes on and maybe things that's happened in the past was wrong well they already moved on form it and learned from it why have to go back and fix things. I think god made us to get older for a good reason why try and change that.

    1) I don't think I would try and reverse aging for a few reasons. One main reason is because of my personality type. I am comfortable with the way I look. I embrace my flaws and the natural aging process. Second, I am 28 years old and get mistaken for a teenager all the time. It's quite annoying, but I feel that if I keep taking good care of myself, I will continue to age gracefully without medical intervention.
2)Some societal issues that would arise from a mass amount of people being able to reverse the aging process would be things such as: Later retirement, which may result in social security changes, I am pretty convinced that it would mainly be the upper class getting the treatment, which would leave out a lot of people to become envious, angry and possibly compromise moral to get what they want. Some religious groups may argue it goes against Gods will and so on...... I do not believe it would be a good thing, in any sort of way.

I am not sure if I would want to reverse aging. There are several reasons that I would not want to reverse aging. I believe there is a reason why we age and why people don't stay young forever. The aging process is a very natural thing that we do as humans. The only societal problem that I could see with this is that nobody would want to look old. We would not be able to tell if somebody would be in their 20s or in their 60s. I believe that people have their own opinions and their face is their own. Overall, I do not think this is a good idea.

Don't get me wrong, the idea of slowly prolonging the aging process would be a marvelous & efficient way to continue living life but my opinion has to go with living my life the right way. And by that I mean going through the human development aging process, infant to becoming bag and bones.
I've thought about it & unwillingly believe due to the fact if everyone started reversing their ages then it will cause a huge economic crisis and downfall. There without a doubt would be a numerous amount of people with not enough jobs to supple. The level of poverty would rise as well as pollution worsening and we would rapidly with no means to an end as quick become an over populated economy. I don't know how far it would go after those major crisises but the world to me seems like it would be completely corrupt with no intensions of healing itself.

I would not reverse the aging process for myself. God created all of us, and we are all meant to age. If people do not like you because you are getting older, they were never your friend. I think people need to age with dignity.

This day and time we see age discrimation a lot. My dad has a hard time finding a job because of his age. I think that if people could reverse aging, then they would be competing with younger people for jobs. They would look the same, so they could get the job. Another societal issue could be the whole dating thing to another level. We could see and older man (like in their 40s or 50s) dating a woman (in their teens) and vice versa. I believe people need to stay their age.

  51. I would have to say no to the first question. I just think it's very un-natural and would hinder the order of the earth. Everything lives and everything dies and I think that's the way it's meant to be. To answer the second question, I think it would be a huge change for society because of the expectation we have of older people. If the retired age population suddenly started getting younger, there would be a lot of confusion as to how to differentiate between who should and should not be able to retire.

I think it is interesting and amazing..BUT I feel that it is completely unnatural and immoral. I think that if it became popular and accesible to more than the power elite, it would cause an abundant population of older people and more offspring...leading to over population. Personally I think this may end up causing more harm than good, simply because it's a case of... "The Rich Get Richer", except now they get younger too! It gives yet another advantage to the power-elite around the globe. If it was dulled down to less extravagant uses to help with more minor signs of aging for the every-day people then it could possibly put to better use.

For me, I'd likely say if it was something none-too-expensive that I would try to halt my aging but very little else. I like where I am currently, even if there's a few things I'd like to better about myself!

  54. Heather P. 97 Wow! What a catch 22 this is! On one hand, I would love the advantages given by reversing my age. On the other hand, I wouldn't get to enjoy the experiences that come with aging. Turning 30 was hard for me, but now that I am 36, I have learned to appreciate the maturity and perspective that come with age. I can see many problems arising from the reversing of age: overpopulation, the fit for the fittest and angered individuals who might not be able to meet the expense of such a lifestyle. Reversing of age may only be available to wealthier individuals leaving most of the population without any hope. I can also see how many religious issues would arise. This could be a very touchy subject, and I am eager to see how things work out in this case. .

    2. I think it will bring health problems, because you never know, it might have a horrible after effect on people. It will cause population increase, because less people would die, and more babies made. The population might start to cause a huge issue for people like space and food or lack there of. Society would be slower to change because there would still be these old people with these same mind sets and a lot of the time for society to change dramatically old ways usually die with the people who reinforced them.

  61. 1. I personally do not see a reason to reverse the aging process in myself as I am still young. I eat right and exercise on a regular basis, and I plan on keeping these habits for the rest of my life. I am sure as a get older my body will breakdown. But that's just a natural part of life and I am okay with it.

    2. Americans are living longer than ever. But unfortunately due to poor diet and lack of exercise the quality of life is not where it should be. Although there's no substitute for good habits and taking care of yourself, I see anything that could help raise the quality of life as a good thing. I do not believe that we will have problems with food shortages or overpopulation. Anthropologist at the University of Michigan and the University of Connecticut recently conducted research on women's life expectancy and reproduction rates. If a woman can only expect to live to age 60 on average she will have 5 children. But if the age expectancy goes up to 75 the number of children drops to 1.9. When life expectancy is short people tend to have more children to make sure that they are replaced. But when life expectancy is long people tend to have less children but invest more into them.

Age helps us to get matured and as we grow older, everything about us begin to changed. we get to learn new things and take much responsibilities than the younger ages. 2. I feel like if people could reverse their age willy nilly then it would completely change life. One the one hand it would be awesome because we would have famous people who never die, imagine a Sean Connery who is as young and skilled as he was. On the other hand, there would be no natural death. Thus overpopulating the planet and eventually leading to warfare as nature attempts to balance this change out.

    1. I think at times it seems desireable to want to reverse the aging process. For an athlete, it seems threatening that there is always someone else out there who is younger and better. On the flip side, aging is natural and with aging come many wonderful things such as children, grandchildren, retirement, etc... it may seem weird when a grandchild can tell no differences between mother and grandmother.
    2. From a social perspective, aging can be a blessing or just the opposite. If someone has been successful in their younger years and has set themselves up for success for the later, retirement is something most look forward so they are able to enjoy the finer things in life once more such as travel or family. For others who have not been as fortunate and have to work into their elder years, being able to reverse aging could be beneficial because many believe that as one ages, they become fragile and are not able to perform to the levels they once had.

Would a forty year old man be accepted if he reversed his age to 12 so that it was "legal" to be attracted to another 12 year old? Would this be legal or would there be limitations on how one might reverse their age? In my opinion, the whole age reversal would produce several grey areas that would need explanations or limitations because it would become plausible.

    1. I would not want to reverse the aging process yes I don't like the idea of death or getting so old that I cant remember my family or friends or I cant even go to the bathroom without someone being there. But that's why we have nurses, people who care about us even when we do age and people who are there for us step by step and don't leave your side until the time is right. I do agree with some of the other guys saying that I would like to slow down the aging process but never reverse, I miss my child days but if I changed it I wouldn't be where I am today and know the friends I have gotten so close with.
    2. The problem that comes to my mind is jobs, without people ageing we wouldn't have an retired people. Meaning it would be very hard to find a job somewhere when people keep reversing their life so they wont get old and have to retire. Also you would never be able to move up in your career if your boss doesn't retire. If they retire you have a better chance of advancing in your career because they would have moved on and stopped working to insure that one day you can do the same.
