Money Matters

If the U.S. created a $25 dollar bill, which prominent American (living or deceased) do you think should be represented on it?

I'm gonna have to say Steve Jobs. I was thinking that the person represented couldn't be too big of an icon (such as a sports star or actor) and most of the best presidents have already been sybolized. When most people think about Steve Jobs, their knowledge of his accomplishments can be very vague. He was the co-founder of Apple; he bought up the company that would eventually become Pixar, he's the inventor of the first personal computer. He designed the Ipod, Iphone, Ipad etc. A member of his staff at NeXT created the world wide web. There are many geniuses from our past, but none so influential in technology as Steve Jobs.

    1. In response to Ken T. 49 I agree its time or Luther's accomplishments, achievements and struggles for us should be recognized ad what better way than to pay respects on currency. Currency everyone looks at it and the constant reminder of will be priceless. I think it is time he is remembered.

In response to Eric D. 44 I think that Steve Jobs is a great 2nd choice also. Only two other bills currently contain non-presidential faces the $10 bill has Alexander Hamilton, the first Secretary of the U.S. treasury, and political philosopher. Also the $100 dollar bill has Benjamin Franklin a U.S. statesman and inventor. I agree that it is time to note this great inventor. We are most certainly in an error of invention, which if a $25 dollar bill were to be created; I'd vote for Steve Jobs as my 2nd choice to represent the milestones of accomplishments in history that he has contributed.

My first choice of voting a face to be represented on U.S. currency would be Martin Luther King. I think some people will say President Obama, but think that he would also vote to mark the accomplishments of Martin Luther King. King was the youngest person to receive the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964. He was posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1977 and the Congressional Gold Medal in 2004. Martin Luther King is my first choice to be represented on U.S. currency.

  6. I think that Martin Luther King should be on the currency. Even though he was not an president he still deserve the recognition. If it was not for his fight for African American, many of us would not be able to spend the money that we spend today.

  7. I also too agree that Martin Luther King should be on the $25 dollar currency because of his many accomplishments. With his face on the currency also will represent how hard a struggle it was not only putting where African Americans but all Americans are today. We would not had been able to put any and all our differences aside and live our lives the way the good Lord wanted us too. Luther left a legacy which needs to live on.

I will deffinately go with Steve Jobs. The dedication, and love he put into his work was just so inspiring. Many Americans look up to him, and see him as someone they can say, "Yeah, he was one dedicated man." Putting him on the bill, would just be amazing, and a daily reminder of the remarkable things he had done and said in his lifetime.

I personally think that I would put Babe Ruth because he is a important part of American history and this is American money, you dont have to be a president or someone along that nature, there are more important people in history than just the everage people you look at everyday. I think he was a very respected and humorous man and I would love to see him on the $25.00 bill.

I agree with everyone else and say Martin Luther King Jr.and agree that it is time. Not for african-american representation but to show that we as americans have come along way from where we've been and that is all thanks to Dr.King. He has been and still is a staple in our lives for so many reasons and I think the ultimate rememberance would be to put him on the $25 bill.

I'd like to think that a great man like MLK could be featured on his own bill, but of what significance do we hold to currency and the people would put on it when we treat our money so terribly? And another idea, how about we put a giant Wheel on the center of the bill. Afterall, the Wheel is quite possibly the greatest invention of all time; making things such as travel and production possible.

I agree with the choice of MLK to be on the $25 bill. His deeds can not be over emphasized, he brought about a total change not only to African American but to the nation in general. His actions helps democracy and freedom that is being enjoyed today.

A $25 bill would be a fantastic idea! Defiantly not Steve Jobs. Granted, he has shaped culture dramatically, but mostly in the sense of giving us convenience and entertainment. I don't think Obama should be on it either, for a nation that demands equality, should we really give someone such an honor for just being the first "black" president? M.L.K. was not the first to pop in my head, but now I after thinking about, no one else seems to deserve it more. If Dwight D. Eisenhower wasn't already on the $1 coin (1971-1978) then he would be my second choice.

I think that Ronald Regan would be a good choice to put on the $25 bill. He was a two term president that communicated with the nation. Many times he would install a sense of patriotism and pride in America. He also known for "Regonomics". These were policies that helped the U.S. economy. I am not old enough to remember things about his presidency, however, my parents have told me about him.

I find it interesting that everyone is in a debate over the significance of President Obama compared to Dr. Martin Luther King as well as their opinions as to the way Obama is leading this country and no one is as excited about the great women that contributed to this country as well. I agree that Susan B Anthony should be recognized as well as some other significant female leaders in American History.

I think Ronald Reagan would be an excellent choice, as Meredith stated. He brought together both sides of the table. That is why there were so many Reagan democrats. He ushered in a time of prosperity after an abysmal Carter era. President Reagan saw America as exceptional and strong. At that time, he rebuilt our military and we became the force to bring down the Berlin wall. Not through force, but definitely by a show of strength. This is an aspect of a leader that we are sorely lacking at this time, someone who is proud of our wonderful country and what we stand for.

President Obama could be chosen since he is our first bi-racial President and that is historic, but I am not sure I would use him solely for that reason. I would say MLK as my second choice because he fought for equality and understanding on all fronts. He encouraged us to look at a persons character, and not just the color of his or her skin. Wise man. We should all examine character.

I think the president on the 25$ bill should be Pres. Barack Obama. Only because he deserves to be on some type of bill or any other significant material. He has done a great job at leading our country and he still continues to this day. Also, he has changed history of being the first African American President in the U.S.A and that is a great honor. I think President Reagan would be a great choice. In a time where moral was low and faith in the American dream had been lost, Reagan managed to cross all party lines. Reagan encouraged Americans to not allow political stances come between the patriotism for our country. In addition, he spearheaded tremendous growth within this country but also our position among other world powers.

First, I believe the inclusion or advent of a $25 bill is ridiculous! We have people that can't count the money we currently do have in print! Having stated that, several names come to mind; how about Henry Ford...the greatest business man of his time, not only developing a vehicle but revolutionizing the manufacturing process. How about Samuel F.B. Morse, Inventor of the Telegraph and Morse Code or Orville & Wilbur Wright, Inventors of the Airplane or even Walt Disney?

If the U.S. decided to make a new bill. The new Face of change should be allowed, such as Obama. The first ever multiracial president should be recognized for the accomplishments that America has reach. Yes i too think King deserves it but he has a national holiday so its time for a new face on a bill, along with a new name with strong meaning.

Honestly, I think that John Hanson should be represented. Many do not know that he was the first African American President. He was given the position before George Washington was announced President of the United States. He did not sign The Declaration of Independence, but The Articles of Confederation. He also was present when The Declaration of Independence was signed. Depicted on the two dollar bill.

  73. If there was a $25 dollar bill created, Obama should definitely go on the front of it. It would just mean a great deal for Black people and the struggle we went through as a race.
